What Are Drug & Alcohol Addiction Treatment Programs?

The Outpatient Treatment Programs (OTP) is a common drug addiction and alcohol addiction program. It is often used after a longer-term rehabilitation program, or, most commonly, to allow for treatment while still maintaining presence at work or school. Offered for those who are stabilized in their addiction, this program seeks to bring effective treatment at a moderate level of care. Ambrosia Treatment Centers, as well as thousands of other treatment facilities around the United States, is certified and accredited to provide outpatient treatment programs.

Outpatient treatment is offered as group therapy several times a week, day and/or night, and as individual therapy outside of those sessions. This allows for a person to attend school, work, or their family life, and still receive treatment because of the flexibility. The duration of the program depends on the individual's personal needs, but can range up to 90+ days.

These addiction treatments are an excellent choice for those who wish to get help for their drug and alcohol abuse as well as uphold their commitments in their home life. Outpatient treatment allows the individual to interact with the real world and get help from a peer-oriented, therapeutically structured program. Drug abuse is a serious issue and should not be taken lightly. That's why there are programs that focus on getting you the help you need, and allowing for your interaction with your outside life. If you feel that you want this interaction, but are not strong enough to go right back home where your spouse or friends are using, sober living homes are commonly recommended. Part of the outpatient addiction treatment programs is to provide the option of safe, supportive, sober living. This is often provided, but not required.

Common programs provided through the outpatient treatment programs include an evaluation or assessment, legal system advocacy, educational groups, counseling (group and individual), individualized treatment planning, family educational groups, discharge planning, relapse prevention, 12-step recovery and self-help group contacts, and referral to various other needed services. After outpatient rehabilitation programs, aftercare programs will be touched upon and provided as needed. There are thousands of different addiction support groups all over the United States, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA). In these groups, you will be encouraged to share your personal experience and how you're doing now. Aftercare programs are very helpful ways to release all of the pent up emotions that are commonly stored. There are others out there, many others, who are experiencing similar situations and frustrations that you are. Going to support groups and therapy sessions, you can connect with these people. You can help others, and by doing so, help yourself!

Don't hesitate to get treatment. Many people think that they have no time to get help because it would take them away from their family or there job – the place they need to be. But working through an outpatient treatment program, you are not only able to stay at your job and home life, you are also able to focus more of your energy and concentration on these more important things.

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome

Fetal alcohol syndrome or FAS is caused by drinking during pregnancy. The child is then born with a range of disorders, referred to as fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, or FASD. Fetal alcohol syndrome is the most severe effect of prenatal alcohol exposure. FAS is the number one most preventable cause of mental retardation and birth defects. It is a condition that causes many mental and physical disabilities which will be present throughout one's lifetime. The most telling physical disabilities include abnormal facial features, growth deficiencies, and central nervous system problems. There are also many other secondary conditions that develop, which include mental health problems, learning problems, legal issues, and drug and alcohol problems later in life.

This disorder is caused by the alcohol in the mother's blood crossing through the placenta and entering the fetus through the umbilical chord. It has not yet been determined what happens after this point and what the critical times of exposure are. It is known that consuming alcohol during the first trimester results in the facial defects, but the central nervous system and behavioral disabilities could be caused by alcohol use at any time during pregnancy. Many people believe that it is okay to drink in moderation throughout pregnancy or at after a certain point, but to be safe, a women who is expecting a child should not drink until after the baby is born.

Although there is no cure for fetal alcohol syndrome, it is a completely preventable disorder. FAS results from drinking during pregnancy, so as soon as a woman discovers she is pregnant or wants to become pregnant, she should stop drinking immediately. Of course, this may not be so easy if the woman has an alcohol addiction. If this is the case, there are plenty of addiction treatment and addiction recovery programs that will be able to help with that type of a situation. If the woman is a heavy drinker and does not want to have a child, she should take extra measures to make sure that she does not unknowingly become pregnant because she may not realize she's expecting for several weeks.

An alcoholic woman may need a lot of support when she becomes pregnant. Often, this pregnancy is the first realization that she has an alcohol disease and must seek treatment. There are many programs set up for just that. It is important for the woman to remember that it is not just her life anymore. Getting help will not only better the mother's life, but the child's also. The reason that fetal alcohol syndrome exists is because women are not educated about this problem or because they are unaware of their pregnancy. Be sure you and your loved ones are not one of these women.

If you have a problem with alcohol, do not hesitate to get help. Many women don't realize that they have a problem until they want children, get pregnant, and realize that not drinking is more of a problem than they though it would be. Instead of deciding that your addiction is your weakness, decide what you really want out of life and get help in achieving those goals.

Florida Addiction Treatment Centers

Deciding to get treatment for a drug or alcohol addiction is one huge step in the right direction. Treating an addiction is very complicated thing to do. Many times, people will opt for a treatment center very close to their home, but this can sometimes be detrimental to their progress. Staying close to home means that you are also staying close to all the people, places, and substances that got you in to trouble in the first place. Many people travel to Florida to escape and realign who they want to be. Althoughaddiction treatment will be extremely challenging no matter what, trying to get sober in the same environment that you became addicted is like trying to run up and icy slope. Some people can manage, but most can’t. For those who can’t, Florida is waiting.
Although many people run to Floridadrug addiction is also very common in Florida (as it is anywhere in the world). Florida became the state for addiction treatment almost by coincidence. Many drug traffickers used Florida as a port because of the way it is surrounded by water. Fortunately, there was a crack-down on drug trafficking after 9/11 and much of that problem has been diminished. However, drugs are still a big issue in Florida. Cocaine, specifically crack cocaine, has been a constant problem. It is one of the most addictive substances in Florida, and in 2006, a total of 2,056 deaths were the result of cocaine use. Florida may harbor some of the trafficking sites of cocaine, but as a result, has built an extensive community focused on helping addicts get their lives under control.
Now, a beautiful state with much opportunity for escape awaits. The drug rehab Florida provides is one of peace and tranquility. Cost to coast, tropical palm trees sway with the wind to offer a sanctuary of the elements. You will be surrounded by sandy beaches, sunshine, and wide open waters. I’m sure you can see why a place such as Florida would allow for some serious emotional and mental recovery. Ambrosia Treatment Centers is only one out of the many, many treatment facilities available in Florida. At Ambrosia, you will find a confidential and comfortable place to allow yourself to begin the journey to recovery.

What Is An Addiction?

There are many different ways to explain an addiction. There are the emotional and figurative ways always struggling to regain control of your life. There are the physical and logical ways when an individual cannot survive without this specific thing. But the thing about addiction that makes it so dangerous is the fact that it is so internal and personal. No one can reach that part of you, except you. To define an addiction, the addict has to acknowledge its presence. Otherwise it is just considered abuse. There are many options out there for individuals to get help acknowledging drug or alcohol addiction and the support that comes with these programs is outstanding. An addiction is something that needs to be treated and the only way to treat it is to acknowledge its existence in yourself, fight as hard as you can and stay sober.
In today’s day and age, people all over the world suffer from all sorts of addictions, addictions to sex, violence, cigarettes, alcohol, gambling, narcotics, shopping, partying, and food, only to name a few. There are many different kinds of addictions and it is widely accepted that addictions are a common and tough thing to deal with, but at the same time being addicted to something cannot be fully understood. Thanks to the addiction treatment options that are much needed and available, the medical professionals who work with addicts strive to help create a mutual and comfortable understanding. With every individual addiction differs from one addict to the next. It is hard to define what an addiction is, as opposed to tolerance or dependence. Control is much of what makes addiction so insanely frustrating and dangerous. When an individual loses all control, whether it is OCD or heroin, they need to get help. With tolerance and dependence one’s body starts to rely on the presence of the substance. With loss of control an addiction has started or is on its way.
Sometimes addiction happens because of a person’s psychological need to escape the raw and honest life that surrounds them. Sometimes addiction happens because of a chemical imbalance in the brain. There are infinite explanations for addiction, but what matters is that you find the explanation that fitsyou. Although a drug or alcohol addiction will be different for each person, there will most definitely be similarities, too. In addiction treatment programs, an addict will find themselves surrounded by people who have at one point lost control of who they are. These people create a very strong support network, due to their similar circumstances from which an addiction may have taken place. Addiction treatment is a place for an addict to realign their goals and figure out their issues. It is a place to understand why theaddiction may have occurred in the first place and it promotes change to a new start. Even though no one can get inside your head and get you back on track, there are people to that can help you fight theaddiction. It is so important for an individual to take control of their life and it is never too late to start.
